1. QQP Publishers (BBM Media subsidiary) launches first publication at the Cape Town Book Fair

QQP Publishers was privileged to attend the Cape Town Book Fair held at the Cape Town Convention Centre between the 30 – 02 August 2010. Assisted by the MAPPP Seta, the Department of Arts and Culture and the Cape Town Book Fair through their grant targeted to empower young publishing companies, The Directors of the company, Boyce Hlatshaneni and Sibusiso Mjoli attended the event with only one goal in mind, to crack a segment that has not been touched by travel guides publishers. Their publication “The South African Guide” is characterised by a rich combination of travel and business information, the industry has up until now focused on publishing guides that populate either travel or business information separately. This gap has created a niche for this publication throughout the world. Book sales and orders during the event proved to a much needed publication in the industry. QQP Publishers marked this event as their 1st public launch that will be followed by various other publicity activities in 2011.

 

 

Event Objectives
In attending this prestigious event QQP Publishers set out to achieve the following objectives:
Launch their company (QQP Publishers)

  1. Launch their debut publication
  2. Attend relevant programmes offered pertaining to publishing trends, challenges and successes
  3. Understanding behaviours of various markets globally
  4. Identify rights selling opportunities with local and global publishers and distributors
  5. Selling the their publication
  6. Sharing experiences with other publishers
  7. Books Pricing Structure
  8. Cost effective printing opportunities (local and global printers)
  9. Identifying assistance by government and other organisations to small black publishing companies

 DAY 1 ACTIVITIES – PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMME
On their first interaction with the books and publishing world the exhibition stand was setup in full display of the South African Guide booklet. With the exhibition stand strategically located at the entrance hall (HP4) in the mist of giant publishers, to the right was the Oxford University Press, to the left was the Maskew Miller Longman. The day was filled with rich insight and excitement from the discoveries after interactions with authors, publishers, distributors and industry associations.

DAY 2 – ACTIVITIES – EXHIBITION DAY

Day two reflected a true South African reader’s behaviour wherein readers, they came from all walks of life. Visitors came to view and purchase literature, from school books, fiction, travel guides, children and cook books. Readers profile range from young to old couples, families, school children and teachers, government departments, NGO’s, authors, potential authors, book designers, book importers and publishers.
